Turkish integrated long steel producer Kardemir Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) has announced the commissioning of its continuous casting machine No. 2 on April 3, 2026, marking the company’s 89th anniversary of its establishment.

The investment followed the completion of key projects including a second vacuum degassing unit and a sizing block installation.

Strategic focus on value-added production

The new five-strand continuous caster, supplied by Germany-based plant SMS Group, has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million mt, as SteelOrbis reported previously. The equipment is designed to produce three square billet sizes, one bloom size and one beam blank section size.

According to the company, the investment is aligned with its strategy to increase the share of high value-added products in its output mix. Kardemir is also targeting total liquid steel production of 3 million mt. The new caster, together with supporting investments, is expected to significantly improve product quality and operational efficiency.
