The coronavirus emergency has impacted the Wire 2020 and Tube 2020 exhibitions in Düsseldorf, i.e., the international trade fair for the cable, metal wire and tube production and processing industries. The 2020 editions should have been held from March 30 to April 3, as always in the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, bringing together over 1,200 exhibitors from 47 countries. On Friday, February 29, however, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH announced that the two fairs have been postponed to a later date.
"In doing so, we are following the recommendation of the crisis management team of the German government," explained the trade fair body in a statement. "On the basis of this recommendation and the recent significant increase in the number of infected persons, including in Europe, Messe Düsseldorf has reassessed the situation. Added to this is the uncertainty of numerous exhibitors and visitors at the events in March and the complicated travel situation, especially for international customers," the company added.
Thomas Geisel, mayor of Düsseldorf and chairman of the supervisory board of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, said that the decision to postpone the fairs was not an easy one, but added that the "postponements at the present time are necessary for Messe Düsseldorf and its customers in view of the increasingly dynamic developments."
