Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter Group has announced that EUROPIPE, its 50/50 joint venture with AG der Dillinger Huttenwerke, will supply 890,000 mt of large diameter (LD) pipes for lines three and four of the Baltic Sea pipeline, part of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline.

The large diameter pipes will be produced by EUROPIPE GmbH in several production lots from August 2016 up to mid-2018 at its plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. EUROPIPE's shipment will account for 40 percent of the total pipe supplies for the project. Other pipemakers selected for pipe supplies are Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) and Joint Stock Company Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant (ChelPipe) which account for 33 percent and 27 percent of the total pipe supplies for the project respectively.

For the first two lines of the Baltic Sea pipeline, EUROPIPE supplied 1.57 million mt (1,840 km) of large diameter pipes from April 2008 up to September 2011.
