Russia's largest oil and gas pipe producer TMK has announced that it has successfully certified its seamless line pipe to the DNV-OS-F101 offshore standard, which gives criteria and guidance on concept development, design, construction, operation and abandonment of submarine pipeline systems. The certification was carried out by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

The new type of seamless pipes for undersea oil and gas pipelines was mastered at TMK's subsidiary Volzhsky Pipe Plant, at its pipe rolling shop No. 3. The sample batch of 219.1 x 15.9 mm and 355.6 x 19.05 mm pipes showed that the products correspond to all DNV requirements.

DNV offshore certification is applied both to welded and seamless pipe production, and is essential for such major undersea pipeline projects as Nord Stream, Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Dzhubga-Lazarevskoye-Sochi and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok, as well as for the development of the Shtokman field, one of the world's largest natural gas fields, which lies in the central part of Russian sector of the Barents Sea.

Commenting on the certification, TMK CEO Alexander Shiryaev said, "The development of the hydrocarbon resources of the Russian continental shelf combined with the growing complexity and high sensitivity of operating environments demand DNV-OS-F101 certified tubulars. In addition to seamless line pipe, we are also in the process of expanding the mix of certified offshore products to include Volzhsky's new large diameter longitudinal welded production. The DNV offshore certification broadens the scope of applications covered by TMK products and allows the company to enter new markets."
