Shanxi Province-based Chinese steelmaker Taiyuan Iron and Steel Co. (TISCO) has announced that its steelmaking plant No. 2 has succeeded in smelting a high grade steel for application in non-magnetic drill collars (NMDCs).

Previously, steel for application in NMDCs had only been produced in China by major domestic steel producer Baosteel. With its high strength, toughness and non-magnetic and anti-fatigue properties, the steel in question is widely used in the oil industry.

Meanwhile, TISCO's 1,800 m³ and 4,350 m³ blast furnaces, at which production was suspended for overhaul work at the end of August, have now restarted production operations following the completion of repairs. The overhaul work was carried out in collaboration with Shanghai Baoye Group Co
