TISCO plans to establish a metcoke plant

According to recent news in the market, Tata Iron and Steel Corp (TISCO) plans to establish a metallurgical coke (metcoke) plant in Haldia, West Bengal with an investment of around Rupees 10 billion ($221 million). The capacity of the new plant is aimed to be 1 million tons. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, TISCO started using Haldia port to export iron ore in October 2003. The content of metcoke will be constituted by Australian coking coal and the domestic coal at West Bokaro colliery of TISCO. With the blend of these two kinds, ash content of metcoke will be 9%. The completion of this project holds great importance for TISCO, especially at a time, when most of the companies suffer from lack of metcoke. Moreover TISCO is conducting research and development (R&D) works to convert imported coking coal to metcoke.
