China-based engineering and research corporation Beris has awarded a contract to Italian equipment producer Tenova for the supply of a 250 mt per hour Consteel® electric arc furnace (EAF) to be installed in the Chinese province of Jiangsu for the new steel plant of Feida Group, which is scheduled to start operations in May 2011.

The downstream equipment will include twin ladle furnace (LF), provision for vacuum degasser (VD) and slab continuous casting machine (CCM).
The mix of charge of the Consteel® EAF shall be scrap combined with a small percentage of pig iron.

The Consteel® solution has been selected in light of the limited electric energy requirement and thanks to the environmental advantages that have great importance in a residential growing area like Jiangsu Province.

The solution of one supersized Consteel® EAF was studied and compared versus a solution based on two mid-size conventional EAFs, and showed significant advantages in terms of lower investment, reduced space requirement and, more importantly, cheaper production cost.
