SunCoke Energy, Inc. issued a statement Tuesday in response to US Steel Corporation’s plans to temporarily idle its blast furnace and related steelmaking operations in Granite City, Illinios.
“SunCoke has a longstanding relationship with US Steel and we expect they will honor our take-or-pay contract to supply coke to their blast furnace operations through 2025. We are committed to working with US Steel during this temporary idling,” the company said.
On Monday, U.S. Steel announced that it will idle Granite City, but the closure date has not been determined. About 2,080 employees will be affected.
