Spain-based long steel producer CELSA Group has announced that it is developing artificial intelligence (AI) systems to optimize production processes.

By incorporating artificial intelligence, the company will increase the effectiveness of its electric arc furnaces, improve the quality of the finished product that it offers, and will extend the model to all its production centers, starting with those in France and Poland.

The project called Alchimia aims to reduce energy consumption by two percent and increase the circularity ratio of scrap by five percent. The project will also mean 232,000 mt fewer carbon emissions annually.

The project will cost €3 million and 70 percent of the investment will be financed by the EU.
