South Africa’s base metal export value up 6.5 percent in Jan-Aug

According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in August this year the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and articles thereof totaled ZAR 10.52 billion ($767.55 million), down 1.3 percent from July. In the January-August period of this year, South Africa's export value of base metals and articles thereof increased by 6.5 percent year on year to ZAR 89.84 billion ($6.54 billion). 
 
In August of the current year, the country's imports of base metals and articles thereof amounted to ZAR 4.65 billion ($339.06 million), decreasing  8.3 percent from the previous month, while in the first eight months South African imports of base metals and articles thereof rose by 0.5 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 40.35 billion ($2.94 billion).
