SMS Siemag to provide VOD facility for US steelmaker

Pittsburgh-based plantmaker SMS Siemag LLC announced that it will supply a VOD facility (vacuum oxygen decarburization) for Irvine, Pennsylvania, US-based steel producer Ellwood National Steel, subsidiary of Ellwood Group, Inc.
 
The new VOD facility will enable the production of low carbon stainless steel forgings with a combination of strength, toughness and corrosion resistance. SMS Siemag will supply mechanical process equipment with an alloy addition system. The entire electrical and automation systems will be also provided by the plantmaker.
 
Production at the new facility is scheduled to commence in December 2012.
