German plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that it will supply a large diameter pipe mill for Greece-based Corinth Pipeworks for the production of longitudinally welded pipes. With this new mill, the pipemaker is planning to expand its product range in order to meet the growing worldwide demand for high-strength pipes for oil and gas extraction and transit.

The new mill will be able to produce longitudinal submerged-arc welded pipes with outside diameters from 18 to 56 inches, wall thicknesses up to 40 mm and pipe lengths up to 18.3 m, in high- strength steel grades up to X100. The pipe mill scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2015 will have an annual capacity of 400,000 mt.

The large diameter pipes to be produced by Corinth Pipeworks will be used in future energy supply projects in the Mediterranean region, the Gulf of Mexico, Latin America, West and East Africa and in the North Sea.
