On June 25, Austria-based giant engineering and plantmaking company Siemens VAI Metals Technologies (Siemens VAI) announced the receipt of an order from Finnish special steel products company Ovako Wire Oy Ab (Ovako Wire Oy) to modernize the gas cleaning system for the blast furnace at its Koverhar plant.
Accordingly Siemens VAI will engineer and supply a gas scrubber for the blast furnace. With the new gas scrubber, up to 125,000 Nm3 per hour of blast furnace gas can be cleaned. The modernization project is to be completed in November 2009.
Ovako Wire Oy belongs to the Ovako Group, a leading European manufacturer of long special steel products. The company produces around two million mt per year of low-alloy and carbon steels in the form of bars, wire rod, tubes and rings for applications in the manufacture of roller bearings and in heavy vehicle and automotive production and machine construction. In the steel mill at Koverhar, in South Finland, around 600,000 mt of steel per year are produced and cast into billets for further processing at other Ovako locations.
With some 170 newly installed blast furnaces and a large number of modernized blast furnaces, Siemens is the world's leading supplier of blast furnace technology.
