Shaw Group Inc., a US-based industrial group which produces prefabricated piping systems among other products, has announced the start of construction on its state-of-the-art pipe prefabrication facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the company statement, located in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, Shaw Emirates Pipe Manufacturing LLC will construct and operate a 27,870 meter square facility with the capability to support significant regional capital investments in the power and process industries.

As a pipe prefabrication project, the plant will be involved in the process of welding and fitting pipe and other components into custom systems by following design and scheduling requirements in a factory-controlled environment.

When completed in 2011, Shaw's newest facility will add to its existing pipe prefabrication capabilities in the Middle East. Since 1994, Shaw-Nass Middle East, W.L.L. in the Kingdom of Bahrain has supplied piping systems.

"Significant large capital projects are under way in the Middle East that will impact the region's infrastructure in multiple industries - nuclear power, water, refinery, petrochemical and chemical. As these projects proceed in the next several years, Shaw Emirates Pipe Manufacturing will have the capability to fully support these initiatives with world-class piping systems prefabricated to the highest quality," said J.M. Bernhard Jr., Shaw's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
