In the current year, five enhanced dust removal systems (electrostatic precipitators) supplied by French company Alstom are to be installed at Ukrainian iron ore mining and beneficiation company Severnyi GOK (SevGOK). A total of 22 electric filters are planned to be installed at the processing complex by 2015, which will reduce emissions into the atmosphere by three times.
Investments by SevGOK in environmental protection in 2010 increased more than doubled compared to 2006, reaching $40.7 million. SevGOK plans to spend around $42 million in 2011 on nature conservation projects.
Severnyi GOK is one of the largest mining companies in Europe with a complete cycle of preparation of raw materials (iron ore and pellets) for the metallurgical industry. Its annual production capacity is over 14.3 million mt of iron ore and over 11 million mt of pellets. SevGOK is a part of the mining division of Metinvest.
