Russian steelmaker Severstal has presented its integrated report for 2025, outlining its financial and operational performance alongside its sustainability initiatives.

Environmental investments and emissions reduction progress

According to Severstal, the company continued efforts to reduce its environmental footprint in 2025. Total environmental expenditures reached RUB 9.4 billion.

The company reported that pollutant emissions were reduced by 30 percent compared to 2017 levels, driven by measures implemented under the federal Clean Air project.

Severstal also stated that two climate projects at its Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (ChMK) were registered in the Russian Carbon Unit Register. The company noted that it became the first ferrous metallurgy producer to successfully validate such projects. These initiatives are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4.24 million mt over a 10-year period.

CEO highlights resilience and ongoing priorities

Commenting on the results, Alexander Shevelev, CEO of Severstal, stated: “2025 has been a test of strength for Severstal and confirmed our ability to fulfill our commitments. The steel industry is currently going through a challenging period, requiring us to focus fully on internal efficiency. Nevertheless, environmental and social responsibility remains an absolute priority for us. We continue to care for the residents of the regions where the company operates, implementing projects in the areas of integrated urban development, healthcare, culture, and sports.”
