Indian state-run steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has commenced production of ASTM 517 Grade F steel plates, a company statement said on Monday, October 16.

The company said that the addition to its product portfolio of special steel plates will enable it to meet critical demand from hydropower projects across the country.

The newly introduced ASTM 517 Grade-F plates are being rolled in the state-of-the-art New Plate Mill and thereafter treated in the Special Plate Plant.

These high-strength plates are of critical importance in penstock applications in the hydraulic structure that carries water under high pressure to the power house to run turbines and generate power.

RSP has already despatched around 1,000 mt of this special steel for the Beas Valley Power project, against the total order for 2,100 mt, the company statement said.
