Indian state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has for the first time booked an export order for 6,000 mt of special grade steel plates from a buyer in the European Union (EU), a company statement said on Monday, June 29.

According to the company, this is the first time that it will export 4.3 meter-wide special grade steel plate which has been quality certified as “CE” as per EU-wide standards.

RSP’s new plate mill received the quality certification from Det Norske Veritas-Bermanischer Lloyd, enabling it to open up newer export markets in the EU.

This export order comes close on the heels of RSP earlier concluding export supply contracts for 60,000 mt of special grade steel plates to China and 2,700 mt of the same product to Vietnam, the statement said.
