Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has been awarded a certificate of conformity to DNV standard, enabling supply of its large diameter (LD) pipes for the South Stream gas pipeline project. The certificate was granted upon successful test results for a trial batch of pipes produced by OMK. The pipes in question are 813 mm х 39 mm SAWL 450SD (Х65) and 813 mm х 37.4 mm SAWL 485 SD (Х70), as per DNV-OS-F101 specification requirements.

The South Stream gas pipeline will transport Russian natural gas under the Black Sea to Bulgaria, and from there to Greece, Italy and Austria.
