Russia’s OMK carries out trial production at mill 5000

Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has carried out trial production at mill 5000 at its subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works.

The commissioning of mill 5000 is scheduled for the fourth quarter of the current year. During tests the company produced sheets of 40-80 mm thickness. The next step will be the production of the first sheets of 30 mm thickness and launch of the controlled cooling plant.

Wide sheets produced at the mill 5000 will be used for the production of large diameter pipes for the construction of oil and gas pipelines. The capacity of the complex is 1.5 million mt of wide sheets per year. The total project cost is estimated at Ruble 45 billion ($1.5 billion).
