The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) plans to start up the new mill 5000 at its subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) in July this year, with pre-commissioning to be conducted in May.

All buildings required for mill work have already been constructed, while processing facilities are currently being installed.

OMK's mill 5000 will have an annual designed capacity of 1.5 million mt of wide sheet of up to X120 strength grade with enhanced application properties for the production of large diameter pipes of a new generation.

In 2011, OMK plans to increase its investments by 60 percent year on year, up to Ruble 33 billion (about $1.18 billion). In the second half of this year, the decision regarding the start of construction of the second phase of the casting and rolling complex may be taken. The project will be completed within three to four years, costing about €300-400 million. The second phase is expected to increase the capacity of the casting and rolling complex to up to three million mt of hot rolled coils per year.
