According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in January this year the country's passenger car output increased by 2.3 times to 99,700 units, its truck output increased by 2.8 times to 8,000 units, its bus output rose by five times to 1,400 units, while the output of trolley buses went up by 10.5 percent to 21 units, all compared to January 2010.
According to AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC), January 2011 saw sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increase by 72 percent year on year to 127,564 units. Among the top 10 bestselling models of passenger cars, nine are produced in Russia. "We are pleased to see that the Russian industry started very strongly in January, up 72 percent versus last year. With high oil prices driving the economic recovery and the continuation of the scrappage and government loan program, the foundation is there for a very good year provided these fundamentals stay in place," reads AEB AMC's statement.
