According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in January-February this year the country's passenger car output increased by 2.2 times to 227,000 units, its truck output increased by 95.4 percent to 21,400 units, its bus output rose by 68.9 percent to 4,100 units, while the output of trolley buses went down by 11.4 percent to 39 units, all compared to January-February 2010.
According to AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC), January-February 2011 saw sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increase by 77 percent year on year to 293,495 units, of which 165,518 were sold in February - up 80 percent year on year. Among the top 10 bestselling models of passenger cars, nine are produced in Russia. "The very encouraging start to 2011 continues with 80 percent growth for the month following January's 72 percent increase," reads AEB AMC's statement. It went to add, "With high oil prices driving the economic recovery and the continuation of the state loan program, the foundation is there for a very good year provided these fundamentals stay in place."
