Production of pellet in Mexico sees worst recession in history

Tuesday, 23 July 2024 10:10:21 (GMT+3)   |   San Diego

The production of pellet in Mexico decreased 4.4 percent in May, year-over-year, to 446,527 metric tons (mt), marking a 17th consecutive contraction and constituting the worst production recession in Mexican history, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency Inegi.

The contraction period will deepen because in the last week of May, the Mining Union led by Mexican congressman Napoleón Gómez Urrutia blocked a mining complex and a blast furnace of ArcelorMittal México. The blockade remained until July 19.
