The production of heavy trucks in Mexico is set to establish a new historical record in production and export, the president of the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT), Miguel Elizalde Lizarraga, said at a press conference.
“We do not make production or export projections, what I can say is that December ends very strongly. Currently, with the accumulated average data, we are in very positive territory and we could close slightly above the record year,” Elizalde said, responding to a question from SteelOrbis regarding the estimated production and exports for 2023.
“When annualizing the figures we currently have (until September), production (for all of 2023) would be at 224,099 units and exports at 179,461 units,” he said.
Heavy truck producers in Mexico include Freightliner, International Truck and the unit in Mexico of Paccar (Kenworth), companies that in September concentrated 94.5 percent of total production.
Industry data, available from 2018 to date, shows that the record annual production was in 2019 with 202,147 units. Last year, 200,755 units were manufactured.
In the accumulated January-September period, the production of heavy trucks totaled 168,074 units, 14.5 percent more compared to the same period last year. In the same period, 134,596 units were exported, 9.9 percent more.
Reports from the specialized press indicate that Mexico is the largest exporter of heavy trucks in the world.
