UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies and Germany-based ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt, subsidiary of Luxembourg-headquartered global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, have successfully completed a major converter revamp at Eisenhüttenstadt’s steel plant in Germany, replacing and commissioning the suspension system of the 255 mt LD converter No.2 within just 50 days.
As part of the project, Primetals was responsible for conducting the engineering study, manufacturing and supplying the required equipment, providing advisory services during construction, and supporting commissioning and startup activities.
Revamp completed on schedule within 50 days
The project was completed on schedule thanks to close cooperation between ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt and Primetals. The full replacement and commissioning of the converter suspension system was carried out while production continued, without any safety issues.
Robert Richter, Head of Steel Plant at ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt, stated that the teams met the tight schedule and moved the converter, including its new refractory lining, smoothly while production continued. He described the project as a strong team effort and thanked everyone involved for their dedication and expertise.
