Black plate sales by South Korean steel producer POSCO to Chinese tinplate maker Zhongshan Zhongyue Tinplate Industrial Co. (Zhongshan Zhongyue) recently reached the 1 million mt mark.

According to a press release by POSCO, company vice president Oh Chang-kwan visited Zongyue on January 19 to present an appreciation plaque to Zhongshan Zhongyue chairman Liang Jiang at a ceremony to mark the event. POSCO has been supplying black plates - plates with fine surface quality and workability used to manufacture different types of cans - to the Chinese firm since 1992. The overall supply volume in question had reached 500,000 mt in May 2006.

In 2007 POSCO established Zhongyue POSCO Tinplate Industrial Co., a POSCO-Zhongsan Zhongyue joint venture, in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province. Zhongyue POSCO currently operates an electrolytic tinning line plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 metric tons.
