Peruvian iron ore production in March reached 900,047 mt, 8 percent up, year-on-year, the nation’s ministry of mines and energy said in a report this week.
The volume includes iron ore output from Shoungang Hierro Peru and Minera Shouxin Peru, a joint venture between China’s Shougang Hierro Peru and Baiyin Nonferrous Metals Group Co.
Shougang Hierro Peru produced 872,346 mt of the commodity in March, while Minera Shouxin Peru produced 27,700 mt. Minera Shouxin Peru did not produce iron ore until July 2017. Before then, Shoungang Hierro Peru was Peru’s only iron ore producer.
As for Q1, Peruvian iron ore production totaled 2.8 million mt, up from 2.2 million mt in the same quarter of the year prior.
