Peruvian iron ore export prices in April reached the highest level so far in the year, according to data from the Peruvian central bank, BCRP.

Peruvian iron ore export prices increased from $47.4/mt FOB in March this year to $64.9/mt FOB in April. Peruvian iron ore export prices in April remained stable when compared to April 2019, which were also at $64.9/mt FOB.

In terms of volume, Peruvian iron ore export volumes in April reached the lowest figure so far in the year: 500,000 mt. The nation’s key iron ore producer, Shougang Hierro Peru, produced no iron ore in April. The 500,000 mt export volume reported in April was probably the result of sales from existing inventory dating from before the Covid-19 pandemic.

In April 2019, Peruvian iron ore export volumes totaled 1 million mt, according to BCRP.
