Peru produced no iron ore in May, despite having set on May 9 the criteria for mining companies to resume activities, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.

According to data released by the nation’s ministry of mines and energy, Minem, Peruvian iron ore production in May 2019 was 992,009 mt, compared to zero tons in May 2020.

As for the accumulated period of January to May, Peruvian iron ore output reached 2.43 million mt, 31.1 percent down, year-on-year, heavily impacted by Peru’s nationwide Covid-19 lockdown, which started on March 16. The lockdown ended in June.
