The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced that in February this year its Novgorod-based pipe producing subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) produced a test batch of large diameter (LD) steel pipes in line with specifications for the South Stream pipeline project.

Accordingly, the batch of steel pipes of 32 inches in diameter are soon to be delivered for testing, which will last until the end of this year.

The total requirement of steel pipes for the South Stream pipeline, which will pass from Russia under the Black Sea to south and central Europe, is estimated at 2.5 million mt.
