North American rig counts reverse course: US rigs sink while Canadian drilling rises

According to Friday's report from Baker Hughes, for the week ending August 17, the US rig count fell by 17 to 1,914, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 60 rigs. Rigs drilling for oil fell by seven to 1,425 while rigs drilling for gas declined by 11 to 484.

Canada's rig count, on the other hand, increased by 27 during the week to 326, although Canadian rigs are still down 160 from the same week a year ago.
