India’s state-owned National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has temporarily suspended operations at its Bailadila iron ore mine located in the eastern state of Chhattisgarh following a state government order, according to media reports.
The Chhattisgarh government on Thursday, June 11, banned NMDC from carrying out iron ore storage and loading at its Bailadila mines in the Dantewada district. However, NMDC has said that it has not received such written notification from the government yet. The Bailadila mines with a capacity of six million mt per year are the company’s largest mine complex and account for almost 40 percent of its annual output capacity.
The company said that it is carrying out mining operations lawfully and stands committed to follow all the applicable statutory provisions.
NMDC also noted that it maintains operations without any change at its Kirandul mine located in the same region.
