Japan-based Nippon Steel Corporation, the world's fourth largest steelmaker, said Tuesday that it anticipates coking coal output at its Revuboe project in Tete, Mozambique will begin in 2014. Development of the mine is slated to begin early next year.
Once completed the facility will produce 5 million metric tons of coke annually, and will diversify Nippon Steel's coal production. The steelmaker currently has operations in Australia and Canada as well.
The Revuboe project is joint venture between the Australia-based Talbot Group, which holds mining assets in other regions as well, and South Korean steel giant POSCO.
