Nippon Steel and WISCO tinplate JV expands capacity

Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation has announced that WISCO-Nippon Steel Tinplate Co., Ltd. (WINSteel), its tinplate joint venture with China-based Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Corporation (WISCO), is building a tin mill comprising of one continuous annealing and processing line and one electrolytic tinning line in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China.
 
The expansion project with an investment of RMB 1.85 billion ($290.52 million) will double the annual production and sales capacity of the joint venture to 400,000 mt of tinplate and 400,000 mt of tin mill black plate.
 
Nippon Steel stated that all the lines are scheduled to come into operation successively in September to December 2013.
