MMZ to focus on wire rod production

In August this year, Moldova-based Moldavian Metallurgical Works (MMZ) plans to ship around 15,000-16,000 mt of reinforcing bar to Russia, practically half the volume shipped to Russia in July this year. The remaining output volume (around 8,000-10,000 mt) will be shipped to Ukraine and to the Moldovan domestic market. MMZ plans to cut its reinforcing steel output to 25,000-26,000 mt in August, compared to 38,000 mt in July.

MMZ has decided to cut its reinforcing steel production and to increase its wire rod production due to the latter's greater cost-effectiveness at the present time. Thus, MMZ plans to produce 20,000-21,000 mt of wire rods in August against 15,000 mt in July. In particular, 2,000-4,000 mt of wire rod will be shipped to Russia, Ukraine and Moldova, with the remaining 17,000-18,000 mt going to other countries.
