Mittal chooses Chicago for U.S. HQ

Chicago, Illinois, home to the Sears Tower and Michael Jordan, can now count itself as home to the US headquarters of the world’s largest steelmaker. Though rumors had been swirling for several months that Mittal USA would settle in Chicago, they did not make it official until Friday (October 8). "Mittal Steel is the largest and most global steel company in the world, so that it is very fitting for us to locate our domestic headquarters in one of America's truly world-class cities," said Louis L. Schorsch, chief executive officer of Mittal Steel USA. Though several other locations made attractive offers to Mittal, the company elected to go with Chicago because of its infrastructure and reputation as a world-class city. The company will settle into its new headquarters at a 53’000 square foot space located in a soon-to-be-completed 40-story office tower at the southwest corner of Madison and Dearborn streets. Mittal Steel Company N.V. is the world's largest and most global steel company. The company has operations in 14 countries, on four continents. Mittal Steel encompasses all aspects of modern steelmaking, to produce a comprehensive portfolio of both flat and long steel products to meet a wide range of customer needs. It serves all the major steel consuming sectors, including automotive, appliance, machinery and construction.
