Mexico’s steel consumption expected to increase

Mexico's iron and steel chamber Canacero expects country's steel consumption to increase 2 percent year on year to 22.8 million tons in 2005. Canacero indicates that steel consumption will record growth despite a downturn in the consumer sector and uncertainty in markets. In addition, Mexican steel sector aims to increase 2006 steel production capacity by 10.2 percent year on year to 21.4 million tons. Liquid steel production capacity is expected to reach 18 million tons.
