Liquid steel production in Mexico down 18.9 percent in October

Liquid steel production in Mexico totaled 1.15 million metric tons (mt) in October, down 18.9 percent year-over-year. This has resulted (since December 2022) in 23 consecutive months of contraction, 13 of which were in double digits, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

The volume of liquid steel production in Mexico in October is the sixth lowest in the last 48 months (since November 2020). In that period, the maximum production was 1.70 million mt in May 2021.

Crude steel consumption in the given month stood at 2.66 million mt, down 8.5 percent or 247,000 mt, year-over-year, registering the sixth consecutive annual decline.

In the January-October period, production decreased by 16.2 percent or 2.21 million mt less, totaling 11.44 million mt. Consumption totaled 26.18 million mt, 4.5 percent or 1.23 million mt less than the same period last year.
