The Mexican economy grew 3.9 percent in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period last year, and the eighth consecutive increase, according to data from the national statistics agency Inegi.
With seasonally adjusted data, the annual increase in GDP was 3.8 percent. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the increase was 1.1 percentage points. The information from the Inegi is a first advance, the revised data will be disseminated on May 26.
Data from the World Bank ranks Mexico as the fifteenth largest economy in the world, according to the most recent data for 2021.
In the first 17 quarters of the current government, the average growth rate is negative 0.2 percent. It is the worst performance in the last 34 years, that is, in the same period of five other presidents, all with growth.
