Leading Russian integrated mining and steel group, Mechel, is in acquisition talks with the last major independent coke producer in Russia – Moscow coke-gas plant (Moskoks), according to reports. The negotiations for the purchase of a controlling share in Moskoks are in the final stage, said a source close to the talks. Experts believe that the acquisition of the coke-production plant with an annual production capacity of 1.1 million metric tons would allow Mechel to expand its sale market for coal. Mechel officials refused to comment on the issue when contacted by SteelOrbis.
