Tata Steel has decided to mothball the Orb electrical steel plant in Newport, South Wales, UK, after consultations with unions and staff, rather than implement a complete closure, as previously reported by SteelOrbis in September. The company is also searching for another buyer for the plant in the meantime.

The workers at the Orb plant will be transferred to other parts of the business, including Port Talbot.

Liberty Steel, which has a presence in Newport, is reportedly interested in the plant, while US-based Big River Steel is also interested in using the plant but wants another company to run it.
