Lease gives Dofasco control of galvanizing line

Dofasco Incorporation has recenly arranged a new lease with its joint-venture partner JFE Steel Corporation, that raises the steelmaker's share of the production from Windsor. 50% of the output of strip-coating operation, known as DNN Galvanizing, will be taken by Dofasco, which will rise to 100% by mid 2004. DNN was built as a joint-venture of Dofasco, National Steel and Japan's NKK Corporate. After merging of NKK with Kawasaki Steel Corporation, the company name has turned into JFE Steel. For the recognition of this change, the line will be named as DJ Galvanizing. The line, having an annual coating capacity of 400'000 t/y will double the output of value-added steel, which will serve for automakers and other customers.
