Kalyani Steel objects to revocation of AD duties on steel

Indian steel producer Kalyani Steel Ltd filed a complaint to the Delhi High Court regarding the revocation of antidumping duties on certain steel products imported from Russia, China, and Ukraine. The Indian Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (DGAD), in its final finding, decided that revocation of the antidumping duties on various steel products, including seamless grade alloys and non-alloys, steel billets, and bars from Russia, China, and Ukraine, would not likely cause material injury to the Indian industry. On the other hand, Kalyani claims that the tariffs helped the domestic industry become more competitive against imports. Kalyani officials are therefore of the opinion that the revocation of the tariffs would in fact cause injury to the domestic market. Indian Customs imposed the said duties in June 2001.
