Japan’s crude steel production is expected to decrease to below 80 million mt during the current financial year 2020-21 ending on March 31, Eiji Hashimoto, Japan Iron and Steel Federation’s new chairman, has stated. The country’s crude steel production is forecast to reach 35 million mt in the April-September period of this year, SteelOrbis understands.
The JISF chairman also warned that China has become a threat after the coronavirus pandemic as Chinese steel mills are increasing production and improving technology.
In the financial year 2019-20 ended on March 31, 2020, Japan produced 98.43 million mt of crude steel, falling by 4.3 percent on year-on-year basis.
