Jilin Province closes over 100 small coal mines in past three years

The local government of Jilin Province, China has closed 104 small-scale coal mines in the past three years, eliminating around 5.33 million mt of outdated coal production capacities. Nevertheless, the output of coal in Jilin Province in 2010 surged to 42.8 million mt, up 61 percent compared to the coal output of the province in 2005.
 
In addition, despite the increase in the coal output of the province, coal mine accidents in Jilin Province in 2010 were down 82 percent compared to the number of accidents in 2005.
