Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Pt. JFE Steel Galvanizing Indonesia has begun operating a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL) to produce cold rolled and hot dip galvanized steel sheet for automobiles in Bekasi, near Jakarta.

The line, which has a capacity of 400,000 mt per year, will produce galvanized steel sheet in widths of 800 millimeters to 1,850 mm and thicknesses of between 0.4 millimeters and 2.3 millimeters. The new line is JFE Steel’s third CGL for automotive products in Asia, following CGL lines commissioned in China and Thailand. Indonesian demand for high-end automotive steel sheet is expected to grow as the auto market in Indonesia - Southeast Asia’s second-largest automobile producer - continues to expand.
