Japan’s vehicle figures for March 2005

Based on the data published by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the country's vehicle production rose 3% year on year to 1.06 million units in March 2005. Passenger car production amounted to 885'797 units in March, up 2.6% from a year earlier. Production of trucks and buses totaled 167'321 units and 7'315 units, an increase of 4% and 21.6% respectively. Domestic sales in March 2005 reached 834'066 vehicles, down 1.7% compared with the same period last year. However, vehicle exports were recorded as 438'688 units in March 2005, up 3.1% from 425'489 units in March 2004. The total vehicle production for the fiscal year (April 2004-March 2005) amounted to 10.62 million units, up 2.5% year on year. Japanese leading automakers also reported record-high profits for the fiscal year.
