Japan’s scrap exports up 50.5 percent in Jan-Apr

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 715,044 metric tons in April this year, rising by 4.4 percent month on month and almost doubling compared to April 2011.

In April of the current year, Japan's ferrous scrap exports to South Korea decreased by 6.9 percent month on month to 397,301 metric tons, while a rise of 95.9 percent was registered compared to April 2011. China imported 295,277 metric tons from Japan in April this year, increasing 20.8 percent month on month and up 113.6 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of this year, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 2.66 million metric tons, increasing by 50.5 percent year on year.

In the first four months of the year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 1.6 million metric tons, while exports to China amounted to 981,493 metric tons, increasing by 58 percent and up 35 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
