Japan’s scrap exports up 37 percent in Q1

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 684,655 metric tons in March this year, falling by 2.7 percent month on month and up 53.9 percent compared to March 2011.

In March of the current year, Japan's ferrous scrap exports to South Korea increased by 1.3 percent month on month to 426,543 metric tons, while a rise of 81.55 percent was registered compared to March 2011. China imported 244,460 metric tons from Japan in March this year, decreasing six percent month on month and up 20.4 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter period of this year, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 1.95 million metric tons, increasing by 36.8 percent year on year.

In the first three months of the year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 1.2 million metric tons, while exports to China amounted to 686,216 metric tons, increasing by 48.65 percent and up 16.64 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
